My front cover for my college magazine front cover uses a simple black, orange and blue colour scheme that connotes trendiness and stylishness and also fits in well with the colour scheme of the college logo. I have extended this colour scheme to the male model on the cover who is wearing a leather jacket and is looking straight at the camera while smiling. The leather jacket represents style and fashion while his direct mode of address and smile suggest friendliness and welcoming. The name of the magazine, ZOOM, connotes fast, direct information and news, accentuated by the movement lines on the 'Z'. The masthead is white so stands out against the black background and other bright colours and outlines what type of information the magazine contains.
The coverlines have orange and blue backgrounds while the text is white to stand out and to fit in with the colour scheme of the magazine. More detailed information is shown about the 'Teacher interviews' and 'Summer shots' sections because the content might not be clear, while the others are more self-explanatory and the cover shouldn't have too much text on.
I think the front cover looks good but some areas could be improved, like the empty spaces around the edges and the top, which all look bare. I think the colours work well, the black background helps the orange and blue colours and white text stand out. I also think the layout works quite well, it is simple and looks tidy.
By making this front cover I have learned basic Photoshop skills like using layers effectively and using effects and blending options.By using these I can edit images and items to make them look more professionally developed (overlapping and tinting images for example) where before I wouldn't have been able to.
