To create a music magazine, I needed to define my target audience. I would need to do this demographically and psychographically by considering age, gender and money spending habits as well as their subcultural allegiances and personality. I also needed to decide on a title, price and other specific magazine details.

My magazine will contain information and news on popular dance songs and Asian music groups. There will also be tutorials on dance moves by the music artists themselves or other dancers/professionals and articles on how to 'get the look'. Later on the magazine will feature certain groups popular with readers and build on dance steps. New songs and trends will always be featured.
My magazine will have a clean neat look but the language will be quite informal. I think this attracts the type of audience I am looking for - people who have money to s
pend but like to lay back and relax. White space will be used carefully with bright 'dance' or 'electronic' colours to compliment it and represent the dance theme. Lots of images will be used to reinforce the articles, and since it is a celebrity/dance based magazine, images are important for tuition.
The title of the magazine will be Dance Music Asia. As I have decided that my magazine will be filling the niche of Asian-dance music in the magazine market, I've given it a simple name that simply suggests what the magazine is about but sounds professional and catchy.

The target audience I have chosen for this magazine will be teenagers and people in their young twenties, but may also appeal to an older audience who are interested in music from foreign cultures. The magazine will appeal to both a male and female audience, although the dancing aspect of the magazine may appeal more to the male audience.
For psychographic information about my target audience I used the website UK Tribes - http://uktribes.com/ to select what kind of buying habits and ambitions these 'tribes' of teenagers have. I chose to target my magazine at indie scenesters/hipsters or trendies - people who like to be 'ahead of the game' and are the first to try new styles and tastes of music. This also means they can be people who like to stray away from the mainstream types of music and so my magazine might appeal to them. Dancing is also sometimes a hobby of some of these groups, so the dancing aspect of my magazine might appeal to them. I have also decided that people with Asian heritage or who are actually from Asia who are living in the UK from Asia, who may recognise some of the music artists.
The price point will be £3.99, and the magazine will be released weekly. I think this is a reasonable price, as the magazine won't be thick as it's difficult to get lots of content in, but will appeal to my target audience who have spare money to spend every week.

gazine fills a niche in the market. From questionnaires I've handed out, I've found foreign music is getting more popular, and from shows like Britain's Got Talent, so is dancing. This appeals to people who like to stray from the mainstream, and appeals to the increasingly large foreign community in the country while some aspects such as dance appeal to the wider audience.
